SAFETY COMMITTEE
The Safety Committee has created
procedures and guidelines to effectively handle the problems
that may occur in Carleton Oaks due to a hurricane. The
members of the committee have developed a step-by-step manual
for securing HOA property and for establishing procedures
designed to reduce or limit hurricane damage to the community.
An abridged version of that manual with hurricane information
for homeowners is available by clicking on
hurricane preparedness.

guide on how to install your hurricane shutters,

Committee members have volunteered
to staff a "Hurricane Brigade". Their duties will be to
install shutters on the clubhouse, place all pool furniture in
the clubhouse, remove the wind screens from the tennis court
fences, remove and secure the entry and exit gates and a host of
other preparatory tasks.
Homeowners are encouraged to
prepare for the eventuality of a hurricane. Make plans for
securing your hurricane shutters. If you cannot do this
yourself, start now to arrange for someone to do it for you.
Make sure all patio furniture, flower pots, hoses, etc are
placed inside your home. Stock up on canned food, bottled
water, candles. flashlight and radio batteries.
NOTE: If the power goes off in the
community, the pump at the waste station located next to the HOA
parking lot will also go off. You may be able to flush
your toilet, but the waste will not be pumped from the
neighborhood. If the power outage continues for more than
a day, eventually that waste material will back up. So
PLEASE limit the amount of times you flush your toilets and how
much water you run down the sink during a power outage.
Luckily for us, FP&L personnel restored our power relatively
quickly after both hurricanes in 2004, so this was not an issue.
Anyone wishing to join the Safety Committee or the Hurricane
Brigade should contact any
Board member.
